You have been introduced to the new features of Microsoft Office 2000 that apply to all applications. Microsoft Office is a suite of widely used applications that includes a word processor, a spreadsheet application, a database application, and a graphics presentation package. Office 2000 was designed with three main objectives in mind: • Simplifying the user experience • Increasing Office integration with the Web • Reducing the cost of PC ownership Office 2000 is available in five editions: § Standard § Small Business § Professional § Premium § Developer Office 2000 tracks the user's pattern of usage and automatically customizes the interface based on this pattern. The result of this is that the menus and toolbars will eventually display those commands you use most often. Office 2000 offers a number of features of the Open and Save dialog boxes that include a Places bar similar to that found in Outlook. The Office 2000 Clipboard can now collect and paste multiple items. These items can be from documents, e-mail messages, web pages, presentations, or other files. Office 2000 offers you an improved Office Assistant to assist you as you work. Improved linguistic-based search technology means that you can now ask the Office Assistant questions in less technical language. If the Office Assistant cannot answer the question, it provides a link to the Web where the user can find additional help. Office 2000 has introduced a number of improvements to the Clip Art Gallery. These include a drag-and-drop function and being able to search for clips using normal, everyday language. You can also change the Clip Art Gallery window to take up less space on your screen. All Office 2000 applications include e-mail as part of their functionality. This means that you no longer have to open your e-mail application and send documents as attachments. Instead, you can open a mail header toolbar from within the application and mail the document directly. Previous: Introduction
