 Updated 2004, June 21

Looking about on the Web, you might find "millions" of tutorials if you'd searched for them.

I've provided links for multimedia tutorials to get you started. My challenge to you is this... using these tutorials, learn about the fundamentals of navigating and using the Internet for high-performance and safe Internet browsing, searching and E-mailing.

What is involved?

  • Browsing content; pages on the Internet... connecting to friends, companies, services, information, amazing facts, fiction, etc... it's a big world out there... you'll want to learn about how to use the Internet Explorer or another "BROWSER" so that you can easily connect to the content that you need or want.
  • E-Mail... sending an receiving important messages.
  • Web page building... putting pictures, text and video or audio content online... sharing and providing up-to-date resources, personal data, vital statistics, and more.
  • Searching is one of the most powerful and flexible of Web tools... it lets us connect billions of tidbits of information to the millions of computers worldwide--linking directly to where important information might be. Using a search engine, you might find just about any person, place or thing in our digital universe.

Building Web pages

Web pages are often written in HTML--Hypertext Markup Language. It's a major language of the World Wide Web.

HTML files are made up of simple text that allows Web publishers to create Web pages.

Web pages combine text and images that can be viewed, regardless of what kind of computer you might have.

HTML supports hypertext, or links. These can take the form of underlined text, graphic buttons or 'hotspots'.

Hypertext can link one Web page or call to sound files, video clips, Flash movies and many other online resources.

Web pages generally are created... by people just like you and me.

Web sites involve planning and more knowledge... so, start simple. To get started set your sights on a few pages.

HTML is complicated at first, but, really it's nothing more than a set of instructions, telling the browser software when to start doing something and when to stop.
