GoBack for Easy Recovery
System corruption may be caused by many different problems, including new software, power failure or brownout, incompatible software, viruses, and mistakes. With a simple system that will make backups and also recover from before the system corruption occurred, your hard disk would be relatively safe.

GoBack can retrieve missing or overwritten files, restore your hard disk as it was before a system problem -- even if Windows won’t boot.  It is among the essential tools for corporate, educational, IT and other professional environments, as for home PC users.

GoBack uses about 10% of disk space to continuously backup and protect your data and your system files from loss without you having to do a thing.

If there should be a problem, your main objective will be to find a time in the GoBack history when you know your system was running smoothly.

Once enabled, GoBack allows recovery from troublesome system crashes, lost files, virus disruption, user errors, and problem software installations.

GoBack repair screens display a moment before Windows loadsA boot level drive revert is used for times when Windows won’t load.

As your system loads, GoBack will present a screen before that allows you to launch repairs just before Windows starts up.

As it appears, you'd only have to press the spacebar to access the GoBack menu.

GoBack quickly analyzes logged data and it will present times that you can revert to.

GoBack can be launched from the desktop or system trayFor situations where the system will boot into Windows, the Drive Revert window will run GoBack from the desktop (or system tray).

Next , you'd find a time in the GoBack history when you know your system was running smoothly.

The GoBack Revert Menu

You can usually recover files for several days and possibly for several weeks.  It all depends on how much data is changing and how frequently it changes.

It is recommended that you will periodically back up your hard disk to protect against hardware (physical) failure and for ensuring that you have complete "snapshots" of your data from points in time that will eventually be out of GoBack’s reach.

A Deluxe Edition GoBack product sports a File Recovery Window and password protections.  You can recover earlier versions of files, including files that have been overwritten or deleted.

Getting GoBack
Check on your system disks to see if you already have a personal edition of GoBack.  I found version 3 on my Norton System Works 2002 disk.  I learned about using the product from a student of mine.  She got it in with her Gateway pack.  If you can't find it on a system disks, you can get GoBack directly from the vendor, Roxio (http://www.roxio.com/).

Important Notes:
Uninstall GoBack (using Add/Remove Programs in Windows Control Panel) before upgrading your operating system.

Occasionally, such as when you are going to use disk-partitioning software, you will want to disable GoBack.

GoBack won't work if you install or run with MS DOS Compatibility mode. Your drives must be running with using Windows 32-bit drivers.

Read the GoBack PDF file that comes with the product before you start using it. If you have questions, concerns, and issues that aren't covered, that is the time to start asking them.

Warnings
If your system includes USB or FireWire drives or if you have a network, visit the vendor first to determine if GoBack is for you.

If you have an NVidia graphics card, you may have to install a NVidia driver update (available at the Roxio Web Site).

GoBack may present new problems if you are using Windows XP, if your system is on a network or manages a network, or if you install newer USB and FireWire devices; especially drives.  GoBack may not be fully compatible with Windows XP.

If any of these areas raise a concern for you, I'd advise looking at the Roxio Web Site before you'd install GoBack.  You probably should contact the vendor and provide specific system information, asking to learn more about how GoBack is likely to function with your system.
